According to preliminary media reports, Qatar's Cabinet on April 4, 2012, approved a law that would ratify the draft income tax treaty recently signed between Qatar and Jersey.

According to preliminary media reports, the TIEA signed between Jersey and the Czech Republic on July 12, 2011, entered into force on March 16, 2012.

Jersey Chief Minister Ian Gorst on March 30, 2012, lodged a proposal with the island's legislative assembly, the States of Jersey, that would ratify the TIEA Jersey signed with Qatar in March 2012. On March 28, 2012, Gorst also lodged a proposal for the States to ratify the DTA signed between Jersey and Hong Kong in February 2012.

According to the Japanese government, an agreement has been reached in principle. The TIEA will also provide for the exemption of tax at source for certain income of individuals, such as pensions.


Treaty Update: Canada - Jersey

In Canada, the TIEA applies to all taxes on income and capital. In Jersey, the TIEA applies to income tax and goods and services tax. The TIEA provides for the exchange of information held by banks, and other financial institutions, and information regarding legal and beneficial ownership of companies, partnerships foundations, investment funds/schemes, and, in some cases, trusts.
