The Protocol amends the 1965 agreement, which was also amended in 1992. The Protocol allows for the request of information held by banks. The Protocol also extends to Sweden the right to tax the Swedish penion payments of residents in Switzerland, and the right to tax capital gains on shares of Swiss residents who have previously lived in Sweden. The Protocol also limits dividend withholding tax to 10%, and reduces the interest tax to 0%. The Protocol also adds a most favoured nation clause.

The TIEA applies in Aruba to income tax, wage tax, profit tax and dividend withholding tax. In Sweden, the TIEA applies to natiional income tax, dividend withholding tax, income tax on non residents, income tax on non resident artists and athletes, municipal income tax and the yield tax on pension funds. The TIEA provides for the exchange of information relevant to the administration and enforcement of domestic tax laws, and the determination, assessment and collection of such taxes, the recovery and enforcement of tax claims and the investigation/prosecution of tax matters. The TIEA also provides for the exchange of information held by banks and other financial institutions, and information regarding the ownership of partnerships, trusts, and foundations. It also has a mutual agreement procedure. It had been signed in 2009.
