Dutch State Secretary for Finance Frans Weekers is currently conducting a working visit to South America, with the intention of extending the country’s tax treaty network.
The aim of the Dutch finance ministry's working visit to Brazil, Chile, and Columbia, is to further enhance the good relations between the Netherlands and South American countries, and to initiate negotiations towards tax treaties with both Chile and Columbia.
Commenting on the planned visit, Frans Weekers explained that the country’s extensive network of tax treaties makes the Netherlands a popular country for companies and foreign investors. In addition, Dutch entrepreneurs seeking to do business abroad know precisely where they stand thanks to the agreements in place, he emphasized.
During the course of his visit to Brazil, Dutch Weekers plans to meet with Brazilian banks and firms as well as with Dutch companies and banks established in Brazil. Weekers also intends to hold meetings with the Brazilian finance ministry, the country’s tax authorities and the Brazilian central bank.
In Chile, Weekers is due to meet his Chilean counterpart and to attend a gathering of the association of Chilean entrepreneurs, where he will give a talk on the euro crisis.
Finally, the Dutch state secretary is expected to travel to Colombia to hold talks with the Colombian finance minister..
